ABOUT THE PRESENTER
J.F. Ade
Ajayi, Vice Chancellor of the University of Lagos from 1972-1978, has been
Professor of History at the University of Ibadan, since 1963. He is recognized
world -wide as an authority and a pioneer of African History from the African
perspective.
Educated at the University College Ibadan
and at the Universities of Leicester and London, Professor Ade Ajayi’s academic
appointments and activities have taken him to universities in East, West and
Central Africa as well as the best-known universities in the United States of
America.
He was a member of the governing council of
the United Nations University from 1974, 1980 during which time he was Chairman
from January 1976 to December 1977. He is currently the Pro-Chancellor of the
Ondo State University.
Professor Ade-Ajayi is a prolific writer
of books, pamphlets, monographs, articles and lecture papers on African, West
African and Nigerian History and Education. He has received mention in various
biographical listings such as “Who’s who in the World,” “Who’s who in Africa,”
“Africa’s who’s who,” “The Dictionary of African biography,” and “Biographical
Nigerian”.
Nigeria: Portrait of a culture
In recognition of his contributions to the
development of African and Nigerian History, Nigeria accorded him the “1986
National Merit Award”- the country’s biggest recognition for academic
excellence.‘Portrait of a Culture’ Documentary series
is Professor Ade-Ajayi’s debut as Presenter of a Major Television series.
