PORTRAIT 11 - MUSIC AND DANCE



Looks at Music, Dance and Musical Instruments. It goes from the contemporary existence of these as entertainment forms to show that like many forms of Nigerian art, traditional Music and Dance fulfill more than aesthetic purposes. Many more often than not, they also serve ritual purposes.

The programme compares the traditional music of various groups in their historical, cultural, religious and social context. The comparison involves a look at a wide variety of musical styles and traditional instruments, their components, their technology and their social significance.
